Michael’s presentation was a little different to Jack’s but it was still interesting and thought provoking. The presentation clearly caught the full attention of the entire first year class, creating excitement and intrigue while providing me with and end goal and inspiration.

Michael mad a point that we in South Africa need to make an effort to create our own identity for our country through architecture by avoiding copying foreign design concepts such as Elizabethan or Colonial Architecture. He said that we should look for ways to create timeless pieces that use materials from the surround environment while designing the structures to fit into the surround environment without taking away from the natural beauty.

[endif]--Another important point that was made was that we need to find ways to take the exterior designs of a structure and apply those same designs to the interior of the building creating a visibly consistent look throughout the building as a whole.

The role of the professional in this context is to leave a stamp on the geological face of South Africa that is timeless and beautiful without taking anything away from the existing identity of the land. A professional in the field of architecture needs to be creative, innovative, determined, patient and willing to explore ideas while not being scared of being overly creative.I have realized that I have a very exciting profession to pursue and thus will be improving my work ethic over the next few years.
